IPTV AiSubs user guide

This guide covers the main app features: IPTV sources, channel lists, profiles, favorites, EPG and replay, player controls, AI subtitles and voice-over, recordings, downloads, presets, cost tracking, web interface, encrypted backup and troubleshooting.

1. First setup and IPTV sources

IPTV AiSubs does not include a channel list and does not operate an IPTV service. You need your own IPTV provider data before playback.

1. Open IPTV providers from the drawer or from the shortcut at the top of Settings.
2. Choose the source type: M3U URL or Xtream Codes.
3. For M3U, enter the playlist URL. For Xtream, enter server, username and password.
4. Save the provider, then import or refresh the list.

Refresh downloads the current channels, movies, series and catchup metadata again. The app tries to preserve favorites and folders when it can match the same items after refresh.

2. Main navigation

• Live TV: regular live channels.
• Favorites: saved channels and favorite folders.
• EPG: programme guide, current programmes and replayable content.
• Movies/Series: Xtream VOD content when provided by the service.
• History: recently watched channels and VOD entries.
• Settings: playback UI, language, web interface, AI, subtitles, privacy and encrypted backup.

On Android TV, the side rail and drawer are optimized for remote control. On phones, bottom navigation and search fields make navigation faster.

Favorites and folders

Channels can be marked as favorites with the star action. Favorite folders let you create smaller custom channel groups. The web interface is often more comfortable for editing folders from a browser.

3. Player and remote control

Press OK or tap the video to show the player overlay. The top chip row is ordered as channel picker, AI, aspect ratio, picture info, player engine.

• Channel picker: opens the current list and switches quickly to another channel.
• AI: opens the AI dropdown with on/off, quick settings, language choices and presets.
• Aspect ratio: Fit, Fill, Zoom, 16:9, 4:3, 21:9 and save-for-channel.
• Picture info: resolution, video/audio codec, frame rate, aspect data and stream tracks.
• Player engine: Media3 or MPV can be selected and remembered per channel. If MPV cannot open a recording, the error screen provides a way back to Media3.

Number keys jump to channel numbers. Channel Up/Down or Previous/Next moves inside the current list. For VOD and replay, seeking depends on stream support.

4. EPG, catchup and replay

EPG data can come from the provider playlist, Xtream metadata or XMLTV data. Catchup availability depends on the provider replay URL and archive window.

• Past replayable programmes can be opened from EPG or from the Library catch-up browser.
• During replay, Previous/Next moves between programme blocks and Go live returns to live TV.
• If a catchup channel has no EPG, the app creates hourly placeholder blocks for the past archive window so replay remains usable.
• In replay channel picker, the first list row is the Load all catchup channels toggle. It switches between the current group and all catchup channels.

A provider may mark programmes as replayable even when the video is no longer available. The app does not automatically blacklist these programmes because provider behavior differs.

5. Movies, series and history

Xtream providers may expose movies and series as separate lists. These are VOD entries rather than live channels. The app can provide resume and seeking when the stream supports it, and History helps you return to recently watched items.

6. AI subtitles

AI subtitles use speech recognition and, when needed, translation. Provider API keys are entered by the user and stored locally in encrypted storage.

• STT providers: Soniox, Gladia, OpenAI, Gemini, Deepgram.
• Translation: provider-native translation, OpenAI or Gemini depending on the selected setup.
• Languages: source and target language are chosen from the selected provider's supported language list. Automatic source language is available where supported.
• Models: model dropdowns list supported models like normal settings screens, while still allowing custom model names.
• Embedded CC: when the stream carries a caption track, it can be translated directly without STT cost. This works on live TV and completed DVR recordings.

AI quick menu

The player AI chip opens a dropdown. It contains on/off, settings, language choices and the preset list. When AI is disabled, the chip shows only AI. When a preset matches the current setup, it shows AI Preset name.

AI presets

A preset saves providers, translator, languages, models, provider tuning, AI context, subtitle display, buffer and timing values. It never contains API keys. Presets can be saved from the quick menu and the web interface; the web interface can also edit, apply, delete, export selected presets and restore them. Displayed hourly costs are approximate estimates: always verify actual language-dependent pricing in the provider's API console.

AI context

AI context improves recognition and translation. Use it for general event/channel description, names and terms, and preferred translation pairs. Submitting context may update or restart the running AI session depending on the field.

Subtitle display and timing

You can change size, color, display mode, background opacity, hold time, dynamic reading time, subtitle sync offset and Media3/MPV buffer values. The two playback engines can use different buffer values because their timing behavior differs.

7. AI cost tracking

The web interface lists AI usage by date/time, component, provider, model, translator and source. STT and translation are separate components when separate services are used, for example Soniox STT plus OpenAI translation.

• Local estimate: calculated by the app from local usage measurements and public prices.
• Official API: data received from a provider usage API when available and matchable to the local session.
• Filtering: filter by model and time, such as last hour, day, week or custom interval.

If multiple devices use the same API key, the provider's bill may include all devices together. The app's local statistics show sessions recorded on the current device.

8. Web interface

Enable the web interface in Settings. Open the displayed LAN URL from a phone or computer on the same network, or scan the QR code.

• Overview of active provider, AI state and today's cost.
• Playlist and favorite folder management.
• AI settings, models, languages, context and presets.
• AI cost page with official/estimated source labels and filtering.
• Encrypted backup export/import.
• Open and play recordings, or delete multiple selected items.
• Web language selector that changes the same app language used by the Android UI.

The web URL contains an access token. Open it only on trusted devices on your own network.

9. Encrypted backup and restore

Password-encrypted backup is intended for long-term storage or manual transfer to another device.

• Encrypted backup: saves provider metadata, favorites, folders and AI settings including API keys into a password-protected file.
• Restore: merge or replace strategy is available. Channel lists are not part of the backup; restored data is linked back to already imported provider lists.
• Preset export/import: only the AI preset list can also be moved separately as a JSON file.

10. Profiles

Profiles keep personal favorites, folders and viewing history separate. With two or more profiles, a “Who is watching?” chooser appears at startup. A profile can be PIN-protected, and Live TV, Movies, selected providers or AI can be hidden per profile.

11. AI voice-over

Voice-over reads translated subtitle lines aloud over the programme audio, which is lowered automatically. It can be used with on-screen subtitles or on its own. Soniox plus Google Cloud Text-to-Speech is a strong pairing; optional on-device gender detection can select a male or female voice per speaker. Natural speech may require a larger buffer than subtitles alone.

12. Recordings, downloads and offline playback

Live programmes can be recorded immediately or scheduled from EPG. Recordings preserve every stream component, including video, audio and subtitle tracks. Supported movies and catchup programmes can be downloaded to internal storage or an available USB volume's app folder, then played offline from Library → Recordings. AI subtitles and voice-over also work on completed recordings.

13. Diagnostics, privacy and support

Detailed diagnostic logs remain local and leave the device only when shared manually. Optional Firebase usage statistics and crash reports are off until allowed and can later be disabled in Settings. Privacy details: Privacy Policy.
